What’s a Hard Drive?
In the 1950s IBM code named them the Winchesters, the hard drive or hard disk is a vital component in every computer be it desktop or laptop its job is to store huge amounts of data in a non volatile format, so that data can be kept when the computer is turned off.
Hard disks are used in desktop computers, laptop computers, Playstations, SKY+ boxes and many types of equipment. They are based on the same kind of technology as cassette tapes and floppy disks, (magnetic) hard drives are not impervious to failure, because of this it is important to take care of your data by backing up on a regular basis. Please take a look at our backup guide page. There are different types of hard disks usually described by their physical size and connection interface.
Types of hard disk interfaces
Desktop Hard Disk Types: 3.5', IDE and Sata Interfaces
Laptop Hard Disk Types:2.5', IDE and Sata Interfaces
IDE is an older connection type most modern computers have SATA drives installed.
We can diagnose hard drive problems and if a hard drive is found to have a fault we can replace it and copy over your data onto the new one. We carry between 30 and 40 hard drives in stock so we can have you back up and running within 24 hours. |
